The Community Church of East Williston is excited to announce that Rev. Dr. Marcus Tillery has joined the congregation as our new Pastor!
Pastor Tillery was born and raised in the small, family farm tradition of rural eastern North Carolina. He joined the Tillery Chapel Baptist Church at an early age and was baptized there in 1974. Marcus joined the Haw River Missionary Baptist Church in 1997 and formally accepted the call to the ministry in 1999 under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Junious Jones. He delivered his initial sermon there in early 2000 and was subsequently licensed to preach in 2001. Marcus served as an Associate Minister at Haw River and was eventually ordained there in the National Baptist tradition in November, 2016.
Pastor Tillery is an alumnus of North Carolina A&T State University where he earned the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology. He earned the Masters of Science and the Doctor of Philosophy in Industrial Technology from Iowa State University of Science and Technology in Ames, Iowa. Pastor Tillery recently earned the Masters of Divinity degree at the Princeton Theological Seminary as a capstone for a life of service in Christ and his calling to preach and teach the Gospel.
Pastor Tillery brings over 25 years of experience in higher education to the ministry, having served as a professor of engineering technology and administratively as Department Chair, Dean, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. Additionally, he has served in business and industry, working his way up from process engineer to plant superintendent in the plastics packaging industry.
