Habitat For Humanity 2010

Five students from The Community Church of East Williston’s Senior Youth Group will volunteer with Habitat for Humanity in Homestead, FL the week of their February break. The youth volunteers are participants of Collegiate Challenge, Habitat for Humanity’s year round alternative break program.
During the week of February 14, the group will help a family in need of a simple, decent and affordable home. They have raised the money from car washes, pumpkin patch sales, waited on and bused tables at a community theater dinner, sold cookies and Christmas cards. Also, many generous donors from the community have contributed to help them raise the money for their trip.
“Our Habitat for Humanity mission will be building affordable housing in one of the country’s top five poorest regions” said Kelsey Eckhoff a junior at The Wheatley School. Another collegiate challenge participant, also a junior at The Wheatley School, Michael Marcisak said “The homeowners are selected through a long process, and while they are working poor, they will be able to afford the housing when it is completed. Additionally, the homeowners will be putting in about 300 hours of help in building the house. They will be working side by side with us when we go.” Jack Gorry, a senior at Mineola High School said “We are excited about flying together and we will be staying at Camp Freedom, a retreat center.” Another student from The Wheatley School, Jennifer Che states “We are old enough to realize how lucky we are and it’s time to start giving back.” Jenna Randazzo, a student from South Side High School, said “We have big hearts and we can’t wait to meet the family!”
